Borobudur Sunrise on Setumbu Hill and Dieng Plateau Witness the stunning Borobudur sunrise at Setumbu Hill. Head to Dieng Plateau to see firsthand the natural wonder, the sulfurous springs, ancient temples, and colored lakes.
Get picked up from your hotel in the early morning and head to Setumbu Hill to witness breathtaking sunrise views. When the air is fresh and as the mist begins to lift the sun will surround the volcanoes and terraced fields.
Choose the additional option to explore the UNESCO listed Borobudur Temple, just 4 kilometers from Setumbu Hill. Be the first of the day to enter the gates as they open.
After the sunrise at Setumbu Hill or Borobudur Temple, then travel to Dieng Plateau. Enjoy views along the way of rows of rice fields and picture-perfect villages clinging to terraced hillsides. Head to Telaga Warna Lake via Batu Pandang Hill. Telaga Warna Lake, or “Colorful Lake”, contains water that changes color. At times it can be green, purple, yellow, or even all the colors of the rainbow. This phenomenon occurs when the sun hits the water due to its high sulfuric content.
From Telaga Warna Lake, visit Sikidang Crater, an open sulfur crater with angry bubbling mud and bellowing steam. It’s set among a bumpy and dusty landscape that will make you feel as if you’ve arrived on another planet. Not far from the crater, you can also visit the Arjuna Temple Complex which houses 8 small Hindu temples that date back to the 7th century. Sit back and relax as your friendly driver escorts you back to your hotel.
